Murphy vows to stick with Blues

David Murphy has become the latest player to pledge his future to Birmingham following their relegation from the Premier League.

Murphy joined Blues from Hibernian for £1.5million in January and is bitterly disappointed at City's failure to hang onto their top-flight status.

But he is keen to try to help Alex McLeish make amends by being promoted from the Championship at the first attempt.

Murphy said: "I've been part of the team that got us into this mess and I want to stay and play a part in getting us out of it.

"I would hope that the other players would be thinking along the same lines. We've got to deal with it.

"I've no regrets about leaving Hibernian to come to Birmingham and always wanted to show that I could play in the Premier League. I think I've done that.

"Now we have to aim to get back up as quickly as possible."

Meanwhile Sweden winger Sebastian Larsson insisted the players and not McLeish are to blame for City's relegation.

He said: "It's so disappointing being relegated. It's funny because ever since the new management team have come in, it's felt great.

"It's felt like we have been moving in the right direction all of the time. At the end of the day, it's us players who have to take responsibility for being relegated.

"I don't think the management should, it's down to us. The players would say it's been great under them. Obviously we haven't been great on the pitch.

"But we can come back up straight away. We have to come back stronger. As a team, we have to bounce back."
