Gala claim they've won Kewell race

Galatasaray claim they have beaten Portsmouth, Fulham, Celtic and Roma in the race to sign winger Harry Kewell on a three-year contract.

However, there remains some confusion over the conclusion of the deal as Kewell's agent Bernie Mandic has said the announcement is premature.

The 29-year-old turned down a contract offer with Liverpool in May and entered the current transfer window as a free agent, with many clubs across Europe chasing his services.

Kewell was linked with Pompey, the Cottagers, the Bhoys and Italian giants Roma but Galatasaray have announced his signing on their website.

Mandic, though, insists that nothing has been finalised.

"We have not finalised a deal for Harry and it's down to two possibilities," he told Australian FourFourTwo.

"People will be notified if and when Harry decides on one of the options which may be around noon on Saturday European time.

"We will not make any other comments until then."

"Good point by forefather... thoughtless move!! Kewell could have set the world alight if he'd have put his mind to it. Another "big time charlie" sucked into the glammer lifestyle of the top class footballers. Its times like these when you realise just how well men like Beckham, Gerrard and Roy Keane have composed themselves over the years. "

robmorris (Portsmouth fan)

"I would have liked to have seen Kewell come to Pompey but his wages when he is always injured are prob too much. We only really have Kranjcar on the left, i know Muntari and Hughes can do a job there but Kewell is a natural flair player and would have suited our style on the left flank. He probable wanted a 3 year contract at £60k a week which we would NEVER offer him, more like £30k and a one year contract with the 12 month option if a certain amount of games are played !PUP!"

"What a piece of Scum, this is just the final kick in the teeth for the Leeds fans. Of all the clubs he could have gone to he had to choose hell. RIP boys."
