Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has indicated that he plans to keep Andriy Shevchenko at Stamford Bridge next season.
The Ukraine frontman has been strongly linked with a move away from Chelsea this summer after struggling to hold down a regular place in the side.
Shevchenko's former club AC Milan have been continually linked with a move for the 31-year-old, while Sampdoria have also been credited with an interest in the striker.
However, Scolari has played down talk of a move and has assured Shechenko he figures in his plans.
"Last season he made 12 starts and scored eight," Scolari told the Daily Star.
"Yes, he is a player for Chelsea. If I see him in training and if I believe in him, I will put him on the field."
Meanwhile, Scolari has received a boost with the news that Ricardo Carvalho has pledged to stay at the club.
Carvalho was believed to be on the shopping list of former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho at Inter Milan, with the player not ruling a reunion with the Portuguese tactician.
The Portuguese international has now played down the rumours, saying he is looking forward to the challenge of a new season at Chelsea.
"It is good to see all the people again, fighting for the club like we have for the past few years," Carvalho told The Times.

"Kdelay - Interesting look at the stats. You could argue that 22 goals over two seasons, when a player has featured in 75 games, is not a bad return bearing in mind that the MAJORITY of those games were as a substitute and that he has also entered a totally new and unique league. There is no doubt that Shevchenko is not the player he was in his prime at Milan, and that clearly is down to him losing a yard of pace, but as a third or fourth choice striker he has excellent pedigree and he will always be worth a goal from the bench. I definitely think he his worth a place in the squad and Scolari is proving what an excellent coach he is by starting to motivate these players once again after the debacle that was Avram Grant."

"He should have been given more chance to start. I'm not surprised scolari is not signing another striker. "

"8 goals in 12 starts is true but a complete manipulation of the figures. He featured 25 times including subs and quite a few of the 8 goals were following a sub appearance so 8 in 12 is misleading..."
