Muntari: I couldn't refuse Inter

Portsmouth midfielder Sulley Muntari has confirmed he is close to joining Inter Milan after revealing the offer was "too good to turn down".

Inter have agreed a £12.7million deal with Portsmouth to sign Muntari after being frustrated in their attempts to lure Frank Lampard away from Chelsea.

Muntari is highly-rated in Italy after a successful spell at Udinese before joining Portsmouth for £7million last summer.

The Ghana international established himself as a key member of Pompey manager Harry Redknapp's side helping the club win the FA Cup.

Inter chief Jose Mourinho is thought to be a big fan of Muntari and Inter are believed to have offered the 23-year-old a four-year deal to return to Serie A, with reports suggesting he will undergo a medical on Friday morning.

Muntari admitted it was a hard decision to leave Portsmouth, but conceded the chance to play for such a big club as Inter and compete in the Champions League was too appealing.

"There are teams when they come to you, you need to listen to them," Muntari told skysports.com.

"Harry has developed my game, he has been a father figure to me.

"I love him, and also the Portsmouth fans, but when Inter call you need to listen.

"I already missed a chance to play for a super team (Manchester United) this time I need to seize it."

Redknapp added: "Sulley is a terrific player but, like everyone, you have to look at it if you get a very good offer.

"I wanted to keep him and would be sorry to lose him but every player has his price.

"I built the side which got us into the Premier League a few years ago from the money Peter Crouch brought in when I sold him first time around to Aston Villa.

"Sometimes an offer is too good to turn down, no matter who the player is. I like Sulley but that's how it is."

"aadrien, since Redknapp has just bought Defoe and Crouch, how would playing a lone striker work?"

"peanuts for the quality of this player...can understand muntari wanting to leave but portsmouth should have gotten 15m atleast, i'd say 18m is closer to his value."

"after reflection, the deal is not quite as bad as i first thought. pompey still have mendes, diop and diarra in the centre of midfield. if they manage to sign wright phillips then they will have quality width."
