Boaz Myhill steps from his Premier League debut into only his second game for Wales this week determined to see his career continue to blossom.
Goalkeeper Myhill played in his and Hull's first-ever top-flight game on Saturday, a 2-1 win over Fulham.
Now the 25-year-old turns his attention to Wales and the chance to face Georgia in Wednesday's friendly international at Swansea's Liberty Stadium.
Myhill admits his career has "snowballed" in recent seasons, having quit Aston Villa as a youngster because he felt he was not good enough to break into their first team.
He said: "It took me five years to get to the Premier League after I left Aston Villa, so it was a great day for me made even better by our first win in the top flight.
"This is a different challenge for me at this level, and it will be a magnificent achievement if the club can continue to build in the way it has done over the time I have been at Hull.
"You never know how far we can go, but we showed again on Saturday the character that has taken us to the top level. If we keep that, we may well be good enough to stay up."
He added: "Since I have been at Hull a lot has changed - a new stadium, several managers - and now we are in the Premier League.
"Certainly being in the Wales squad has helped my development, and everything that has happened to me in the last year or so has been a great experience.
"Maybe when I left Villa I could not have envisaged where I am now. At Villa, when I was about 20, I felt I was not good enough to play for the first team and needed to go somewhere else to gain experience and move my career along.
"That is what I did. It could have gone differently but at Hull things have snowballed and we have to keep that going."
With usual first choice Wayne Hennessey with the Under-21s for Wednesday's UEFA qualifier against Romania at Wrexham, Myhill should get the chance to impress boss John Toshack.
And back-in-favour striker Robert Earnshaw is also determined to stake his claim after finally earning a recall following his axing from the squad last season.
Earnshaw, who has joined Nottingham Forest after a nightmare spell at Derby, said: "Now I want to do well for Wales again. I am 27 now and want to be playing until my late 30s, like Kevin Phillips, Dion Dublin and Teddy Sheringham.
"I have to prove something to John Toshack. If I do well then I believe I can stay in the squad.
"I feel refreshed - the move from Derby was a great weight off my shoulders.
"It is not doom and gloom any more, I feel like a new flower. It was a massive shock to be left out by Wales, I had to look a few times at the squad to believe it."
He added: "But it made me think about making decisions about my career, where I was going and the need to move on. I am just happy to be back involved.
"My club career needed to be sorted out, and then came the axe from Wales and I was gutted, really shocked.
"If I do well for Wales, it will help me at Forest. I need to be consistent now for club and country, and I have to make it impossible to leave me out."
