Young ready to commit to Villans

Aston Villa winger Ashley Young has hinted he would like to follow Gabriel Agbonlahor and John Carew by signing a new contract at Villa Park.

Agbonlahor has put pen to paper on a new four-year deal while fellow forward Carew has signed a year's extension to keep him at Villa until the end of the 2010-2011 campaign.

Young still has nearly three seasons to run of the four-and-a-half year deal he signed when moving to Villa from Watford for £8million in the January 2007 transfer window.

But Martin O'Neill is keen to reward Young with a new deal for the performances which saw him break into the England squad last season.

Young said: "What about my own contract situation? I am just happy playing my football. But, if anything like that comes about, I'll be delighted.

"I've got this season and two more years left. I'm happy, really happy with how things are going, happy here at Aston Villa.

"I am just looking to build on the performances of last season during this season and I'm glad we got off to a good start at the weekend against Manchester City.

"Would I like to commit to a new contract? Of course. It is a fantastic club. I am delighted I'm playing here."

O'Neill said: "Ashley has been fantastic for us and we are in conversation with him over that (a new contract).

"He hasn't come and asked for anything. He has got a number of years left of the deal he signed when he came here to run but I'd like to sort him out (with a new contract)."

"Whats with all these Liverpool fans? Are you bitter that youve become a national joke? No other fans have any respect for your club, manager or players who sum up everything that is wrong with football. You struggle year after year to 4th, occasionally snatching another place by goal difference over the Arsenal youth team. Just keep to your own page because its not giving you any badly needed credit coming on here and slagging us off without provocation. I think by doing it you are proving you are more in our league than Man Utd's, Chelsea's or Arsenal's."

"T13theobh (Aston Villa fan) Yet another deluded brummie. YOung will need to leave to further his career. I personally feel he should try to go abroad and play to really test himself and add a different dimension to the England team. DON'T BUY THE SUN"

"Lucky_Strike (Liverpool fan)....What is it with all you bin dipper fans? you are soooooo bitter! How can you say no other clubs outside the current Sky4 can break into that group? So you're clairvoiant as well as arrogant?!I think you ought to sort the lottery numbers out for your club as it would appear they are in desperate need of some cash. Muppet.......see you on the 31st

"After this season and realisation of wht true Villa is, this young lad full of ambition to lift Villa up the table will come to the inevitable conclusion that his club will never reach the top level, and will follow his captain's course of 'I want CL, not TOTOy Competition', instead the young lad will hand in an actual transfer request when his captain was afraid to do so. P.S. Posters, dont get overexcited and pour your efforst on here telling me Liverpool will never compete for the title, as I know all too well that the quality to do so has not been there yet. Im just feeling sorry for the kid. But still, YNWA!!!!!!"

"Fantastic news, fantastic player! I hope AVFC can get him signed to a 10 year deal!! He will be THE player that everyone wants very soon, if not already. Still finding it incredible he was left out of the england squad?"
