Battle of Britain looms after CL draw

Holders Manchester United will face Celtic in the Champions League group stages following the draw in Monaco on Thursday.

Sir Alex Ferguson's side, who beat Premier League rivals Chelsea on penalties in the final in Moscow in May, were also joined by Spanish side Villarreal and Danish club Aalborg in Group E.

The trip to Spain to play Villarreal will bring back bad memories for England striker Wayne Rooney who was sent off playing against the same club in September 2005.

Rooney was dismissed after reacting to a booking by sarcastically applauding Kim Milton Nielsen's decision right under the referee's nose.

It left the man who famously sent David Beckham off during England's World Cup clash with Argentina in 1998 with little alternative other than to brandish a second yellow and dismiss Rooney from the field.

Runners-up Chelsea have been drawn in Group A along with Italian giants Roma, French side Bordeaux and Romanian club Cluj.

Luiz Felipe Scolari's team will look to go one better than last season when they were beaten on penalties by United.

Arsenal have been drawn in Group G with Porto, Fenerbahce and Dynamo Kiev.

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres faces an emotional return to former club Atletico Madrid after the Anfield outfit were drawn in Group D along with PSV Eindhoven and Marseille.

"Arsenal and Liverpool Should not look at their group as a soft ride through. Those opponents can not be under-estimated. I would consider Chelsea and Man.u already in the next stage."

"I think we can do better than United and liverpool and beat Roma and Bordeaux "

"Group D surely the group of death"

"Lyon, Bayern, Fiorentina, Steaua

This is the hardest group in my opinion. It will be interesting the Toni's comeback to Firenca."

"Why celtic again vry anoyin.well, we will deal wit dem dis time. d most interesting of all is villareal d draw bring ugly memory of 2005 wen wayne was sent off. i tink dis's time 2 take our own bite.d ugly scene dt sees man u out of cl 2nd rnd.My gudnes it crazy."

"where's group b?"

WestGortonRed (Manchester United fan)

"Only a complete muppet would say Utd got the easiest draw. Villareal (who finished 7 points ahead of Barca) and Celtic who will be difficult cos of the England/Scotland thing. Ok, Aalborg will be whipping boys but you have to say Chelsea have the easiest draw of all. Cluj? Bordeaux? And Roma who were praying for anyone but Utd again. Lpool have a much harder draw than the others."
