Che put £121m fee on Villa's head

Valencia president Vicente Soriano has said that Manchester City would have to pay £121million in order to land David Villa's signature.

Villa: Would command world-record fee
Villa: Would command world-record fee

Villa had been persistently linked with a transfer away from the Mestalla following his impressive showing for Spain at Euro 2008.

A move during the summer failed to materialise, however reports on the final day of the transfer window suggested Premier League club City had attempted to secure his services.

The new owner of City, Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim, has intimated that Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment (ADUG) could back a major overhaul at the club in January with Villa thought to be high on the side's list of targets.

But Soriano has warned the Eastlands outfit off Villa, insisting only a world record offer would see the 26-year-old depart Los Che.

He said in the Daily Star: "They would have to pay his release cause - £121million."

Villa's agent, Jose Luis Tamargo, added: "Villa has said he intends to remain in Valencia, where they want to keep him for a long while.

"He has never wanted to play in English football."

"so..as city continue to bid for player which immediately inflat their value by many times...

sure enough, all players will have 3 price tag, 1)market value, 2) chelsea's price tag 3) city price tag..... "

"Man City have now just up'd the asking price for any decent player by about 50m, its obserd. I though Chelsea was bad enough to start with (21m for SWP) but 121m for villa, thats more money than most prem clubs! Does this now mean that the likes of Andy Reid and other rubbish players are now worth 10m?! "

"Id like to see what theyd do offered 60million...considering their debt is currently at something like twice the value of the club."

"Actually Caligula I think you will find that the last time a "new team" challenged for the major honours it was Chelsea 6 or 7 years ago. It's amazing how people seem to talk as if there's always been a "big four". The "big four" group only came into existence in 2003/4, just 5 years ago."

"farmer_john... it was a passing remark on my behalf mate.. but come to think of it... if u actually know these ultra rich middle eastern people.. they tend to spend lavishly and are often known to always go over the top.. wouldn't surprise me if they did. and you know what sucks? everyone is Man city and to an extent Chelsea buy their players when ever u visit the gas pump. haha... just a thought to ponder"

"garyjhooti, learn to speak, or at least write in English. You're not sending a text message on here. If I translated your coded message I believe you were challenging City to finish in the top 4 for the next few years. When it happens, are you going to come back on here and admit you were wrong?"

"And I thought that the Newcastle United saga was a joke."

"Interesting. About time a new team challenges for honors in England. Last time was Blackburn in the early 90s..."
