Moyes demands more from Everton

David Moyes is "impressed" with Everton's recent resurgence but is demanding more improvements from his Goodison Park squad.

The Merseyside club are unbeaten in their last four matches, including three wins in their last three games, and Moyes admitted the mood in the Everton camp is much improved compared to a month ago.

However, ahead of Sunday's Premier League encounter against Middlesbrough, the Everton manager is refusing to rest on his laurels and wants to see his side continue to regain the form that saw them to finish fifth in the league last season.

He said: "I am impressed, we are in a good league position and the players have performed really well in as far as we have got results and we have come back from behind in several games so that is good.

"I would hope we would improve though. You always look to improve whether you are winning or not - you want to keep improving and overall we would like to ensure the performances get back to the ones from last season.

"I don't think we are too far away, we have started to get the results and that builds confidence and self-belief."

In the three recent victories against Bolton, Fulham and West Ham United respectively, Moyes' men have scored five times in the last ten minutes to help wrestle the points away from their opponents and although Moyes says he cannot highlight the exact reasons behind Everton's last-gasp success, he believes the fitness of his team could be a factor.

"I think a lot of goals in the Premier League are scored late on, we are beginning to score near the end but I don't think there is any one reason for that, it is just the way it is going at this present time," he said.

"I don't think it is any one reason but the group has got a lot fitter than they were in pre-season. We look much fitter and we can talk about nearly having a full squad to pick from so I think that helps as well."

Louis Saha's broke his Everton duck against Fulham a fortnight ago, heading the winner with three minutes to go at Goodison Park and he followed that up with another two strikes last weekend in the victory against West Ham United.

Saha, who has previously struggled with debilitating knee and hamstring injuries, switched from Manchester United on a free transfer on the last day of the transfer window and Moyes believes his injury problems are now behind him and that Everton's fans can expect to see him back to his best.

"I think he has proved before that he is a very good Premier League striker at both Fulham and Manchester United," Moyes added.

"In the time that he has been here he has missed only one day and has been involved in all the training sessions, he's is starting to settle in and we are getting used to him as well so hopefully his goals will keep flowing.

"I think everything has basically cleared up for him. He naturally keeps himself in shape and prepares properly so that is not a concern for him.

"The match fitness, the regular playing and competing in training is all benefiting him now.

"He has great ability with his feet, it is terrific what he can do with the ball and we have to learn to use that better. It is all going well at the moment and lets hope that carries on."
