Capello has selection headache - Terry

Captain John Terry believes England's absent stars could be made to regret missing Wednesday night's 2-1 victory over Germany in Berlin.

Fabio Capello's makeshift side dominated almost the entire match and scored through Matthew Upson and Terry, while Patrick Helmes had initially equalised for the hosts in comical circumstances.

"It was a good performance from the lads. Obviously it's a young squad but they've given the manager a problem there with a lot of good performances," Terry told ITV1.

"They've proved a lot. The pitch was really difficult so we didn't want to play too much, too deep, but they had confidence on the ball and were always a threat. It's very exciting."

Germany's leveller came when Terry and substitute goalkeeper Scott Carson dithered and allowed Helmes to sneak in.

"I'm disappointed with the goal. I should have cleared, it's not Scotty's fault at all," Terry said.

Capello was happy to have been given some selection posers after strong performances from the likes of Stewart Downing and Gabriel Agbonlahor.

"I'm very happy for these problems," he told ITV1. "This is no problem for me, we have time to decide when we do the next squad.

"I'm very happy because today I saw some players play very well and I needed to know them better."

The Italian coach was delighted with the spirited display given by his team.

"The result is important but the performance was very good because we played here against Germany, a good team, played very well and had a lot of chances to score," he said.

"I like the attitude of the team, they played with confidence and personality."

Capello added: "I said yesterday I have confidence in my team and we had a good opportunity to know some players better.

"All the players played well and it's very important, the spirit we have now in every game."

"Excellent, positive review without going over the top. Love to hear the positive stuff, something too many England 'fans' lack at the first opportunity, winding me and like-minded supporters up who want to cheer on our team rain or shine. Terry's fault for their goal but 1) admitted as much and 2) made up for it!! Not a GREAT side as yet Strength in depth evident and a manager who seems to know what he's doing.. "42 and a half years of hurt never stopped me dreaming..." !!!"
