Roman rifles home in Spurs triumph

Tottenham continued their fine form under Harry Redknapp as they defeated 10-man Blackburn 1-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Pavlyuchenko: Celebrates the winner

Roman Pavlyuchenko's first-half strike means Redknapp's charges have now picked up 13 points from their last six games to move out of the bottom three.

However Paul Ince's Blackburn are struggling and have not won in the Premier League for eight matches and are now next to bottom.

Spurs were quickly into their stride and when Martin Olsson lost the ball right on the left, Aaron Lennon raced through and pulled the ball back for Pavlyuchenko (10) to fire into the net.

Pavlyuchenko could have doubled the lead eight minutes later when his header hit the post from David Bentley's free-kick, then Ryan Nelsen cleared off the line when Ledley King steered the rebound on target.

Heurelho Gomes rushing out of his goal almost offered Rovers a way back in the game - Brett Emerton lobbed the ball over the Brazilian but Jonathan Woodgate beat Benni McCarthy to the loose ball and headed clear.

Full-back Olsson's day went from bad to worse when he received two yellow cards for fouls on Lennon and was subsequently dismissed and it required former Spurs keeper Robinson to make a stunning save when the winger unleashed a volley from the resulting free-kick.

Sub Fraizer Campbell almost headed in number two in the second half, but he glanced his effort wide after a wicked cross from Lennon.
