TEAMtalk's Top Tips - Monday

TEAMtalk fancies Dirk Kuyt to score first in Monday's Liverpool v West Ham clash, and Coventry's Elliot Ward to net at any time at Reading.

Kuyt: Can he net first at Anfield?
Kuyt: Can he net first at Anfield?

Our tipping service recorded a profit in its first week, so let's hope we can continue to point you in the right direction in the next seven days.

Two of our weekend selections came up trumps - Mark Holmes suggested backing Bolton to win at Sunderland at 9-4, while Ian Watson was on Middlesbrough and Newcastle to draw at 12-5.

But there was double disappointment for West Brom fan Simon Wilkes, who had tipped his side to win at Wigan at 7-2 - only to see them take the lead and then lose the game.

And Jon Holmes fancied an FA Cup shock to come at Fleetwood Town, who were 11-2 to beat Hartlepool - but the League One side successfully negotiated a route through to round three.

Here's our selections for the two televised Monday night games...

Liverpool v West Ham - James Marshment

Dirk Kuyt to score first, 9-2

If the bookies' odds are anything to go by, this match will produce nothing other than a victory for the Reds so there's no real value in backing any sort of home win.

Instead you have to turn your attention to the other markets in this game and I feel that the in-form Kuyt offers decent value as first goalscorer.

The history of this fixture tells us that it's one that Liverpool's strikers thrive in (Fernando Torres bagged a hat-trick last term, while Michael Owen always had a penchant for home games with the Hammers).

With the Spanish hot-shot out injured, I feel Kuyt - who will be pushed into a more advanced role, with Jermaine Pennant or Ryan Babel filling the right-wing berth - looks a hopeful-enough punt.

The Dutchman has seven goals in 19 games for the Reds this season - four of which have been the game's first goal, so he might be worth a small wager to repeat that against a Hammers defence who have conceded 11 goals in seven games on the road so far this season.

Reading v Coventry - Jon Holmes

Elliott Ward to score at any time, 6-1

Although Reading are the clear favourites to win this fixture, we shouldn't rule out Coventry who are quite useful on their travels.

The Royals may have the best home attack in the Championship, but the Sky Blues boast the best away defence - and they've claimed 1-0 wins in their last two road trips, at Birmingham and Sheffield Wednesday.

In fact, Chris Coleman's men have found the net in all but one of their away games this season.

Clinton Morrison has been their main outlet but I'm going to plump for a goal from Ward, who will be on penalty duties for the visitors at the Madejski and could also pose a threat from set pieces.

"Kuyt to score first? Never thought i'd actually see that in writing. Steven Gerrard to dive and get a pentaly in the last minute - what would the odds on that be?"
