Former Fulham, Birmingham and West Brom striker Geoff Horsfield has been given the all clear following surgery for testicular cancer.
Horsfield was hoping to earn a contract with League One Walsall back in October before being forced to retire as a result of the diagnosis.
Horsfield, 35, stressed at the time his intention to overcome the illness and he has now confirmed the treatment was a success.
Further scans have reportedly highlighted a spot on his lung and he will undergo more tests next year to find out if it is cancerous. But, despite initially stating his retirement, the prolific marksman is looking to return to the game.
"The tests found that the cancer that was in my testicle, that's been taken away," he told Beacon Radio.
"I've just started running on my own at the minute and going to the gym, and I am trying to keep my fitness up and maybe even play and stamp my coaching badges in January. So I do want to stay in the game in some form, definitely.
"I'm definitely going to speak to (Walsall manager) Jimmy Mullen because he and (assistant manager) John Schofield were absolutely different class. Walsall were fantastic and I really enjoyed my time there, even though I was only there for three to three-and-a-half weeks."
