Bhoys chief executive Peter Lawwell has opened talks with Caldwell's agent over a contract extension to keep him at Parkhead until 2014.

Caldwell has established himself as a key member of Gordon Strachan's side since his arrival from Hibernian in the summer of 2006.

The 26-year-old insists he is happy to stay at Celtic and help the side to further glory.

"It's always been my aim to stay at Celtic," Caldwell told the Daily Record. "I've said that to the manager, to Peter and my agent has said that. It is up to them to sort that out.

"There are a lot of players on long-term contracts and the club can grow together and be more successful.

"When you are at Celtic, you want to be remembered. You want to win league titles, cups and go far in Europe.

"To do that, you have to work hard and be successful every year. We all have the desire to keep winning.

"Now the club are trying to sign the players on longer-term deals to create that long-term goal.

"We could play together for a long time, improve together and who knows where we could be."
