Michael Turner has rubbished rumours he could leave Hull in the January transfer window after being linked with Manchester City and Liverpool.
The impressive centre-half, 25, whose form this season has seen him tipped as a future England international, has been linked with the North-West rivals.
The former Brentford player has two-and-a-half years remaining on his present contract but Hull, having reportedly valued him at £10million, are taking no chances and have opened talks over a new deal.
Turner insists he is happy to stay at the KC Stadium having made a huge impression in his side's debut Premier League campaign.
Turner said: "My agent has had a couple of meetings with (manager) Phil Brown and hopefully in the next few weeks something can be agreed.
"We are looking to extend it and hopefully something can be agreed pretty quickly.
"This is my first year in the Premier League, the club is going in the right direction and I want to be part of something here.
"First and foremost I have got to stay in the Premier League and go again next year.
"Hopefully the stadium can be developed - we have got the fanbase and the potential to be a huge club."
As for suggestions he could force his way into Fabio Capello's England reckoning, Turner remained coy.
He added: "I have just got to keep my feet on the ground. I'm not the kind of person to let it go to my head, I just take each game as it comes.
"Like any English player I would love to play for England but at the moment I have only played 18 (Premier League) games.
"If I play a few seasons to the standard I have you never know, but I am not thinking about that."

"If we didn't have JC, DA, MS & SH I would say sign him but we have 3 CB that are better then him so unless DA does go then it would be a waste of money. "
