Redknapp rubbishes James reports

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has poured cold water on talk that has suggested he will return to Portsmouth for goalkeeper David James.

James: Spurs link dismissed

Redknapp is known to be keen to improve his squad in the January transfer window and has been linked with a number of his former Fratton Park charges.

Spurs are currently engaged in discussions with Portsmouth over the possible return of Jermain Defoe to White Hart Lane but Redknapp will not raid his former club for James.

Redknapp has made no secret of his belief that James is the best goalkeeper in the country but a move to the capital for the England man appears unlikely.

"I've never been linked to David James," Redknapp told Sky Sports News.

"Because he plays for Portsmouth and I signed him everybody is linking me. I've not made any (offer).

"(Portsmouth chief executive) Peter Storrie is a very good friend of mine, if I was interested in David I'd ring him up. I've never mentioned David James.

"The only contact we've had with Portsmouth is over Jermain Defoe. We asked if they were willing to sell him and they are, but at the right price.

"It had nothing to do with anyone else."

"He is saying that he is not interested in the player and has not spoek to anyone about it. He has a right to come out and deny claims made against him that are untrue. We talk out about players that want to come to us, it is not our thought that Downing can see at sinking ship at Middlesborough and wants to jump before being taken down with it. Chin up! COYS!"

"jayjas23...I can't see why you'd have a problem with Harry talking??? he just says out loud what everyone knows at least he's not sneeking around behind closed curtains doing back handers"

PompeyMatty (Portsmouth fan)

"I can see why the Villa fans hated redknapp when he was at Pompey now..... He never stops talking, think he loves the media more than the game itself !."

"jayjas23 (Boro fan), At least Arry said it like it was. Unlike a certain Fergie in Aug 2008, who tried to evade by saying he didn't mentioned the player he was after; yet telling reporters that he's confident to get that player, as time is on his side.."

Captain Tottenham (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"Hang on! Harry gets asked in an interview if he is also interested in David James, he says he isn't and if he was he would contact Pompey (an official approach) and people are moaning about Harry talking about other teams players!! What's he supposed to do then, he can't deny it anymore than he did!!"

kdelay (West Ham United fan)

"Don't do it!!!! He bathes in butter before games!!! Surely you know this by now??? He may be good enough for portsmouth and may be one of the best England have but Spurs can afford a real heavy-weight... surely they can do better than calamity james?"

macker75 (West Ham United fan)

"Totally agree with you jayjas23. 'Arry is losing face bigtime with the media and fellow managers alike due to his public transfer policy on any players he wants to sign. Martin Samulles from the sun had a pop at him on skys sunday supplement at the weekend and good ald 'arry boy was on sky sports news last night defending himself saying samules didn't know what he was talking about. Strike a nerve did he Harry.... "

JoshLFC (Liverpool fan)

"people might disagree with me but i cant see why spurs would want him anyway. Gomes hasnt been playing that bad lately and James hant in the form he was last season to me"

jayjas23 (Middlesbrough fan)

"Just Shutup talking about other teams players Harry! You are turning spurs AND its board into the most hated club in the league!!!"
