Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has insisted that he wants to keep hold of Andrea Dossena, despite the Italian's disappointing start at Anfield.
The Italian arrived at Anfield from Udinese over the summer for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £7million.
He was given the opportunity to establish himself at left-back but failed to impress and lost his place to Fabio Aurelio.
Aurelio suffered an injury at the end of November but Benitez turned to Argentine youngster Emiliano Insua rather than Dossena.
Dossena has been linked with a January move away from Liverpool but Benitez has ruled out a departure.
He does not want to lose any of his players as the Reds continue to mount a challenge for the Premier League title.
"I am not considering selling Dossena," Benitez said in the Daily Star.
"I think it is important to keep the squad together."

"I admire people sticking up for Andrea but let's face it, he has been pants! BUT what I will say is that I saw a few of his games in Serie A live on the tele and he really did look very good, so pleased to see Rafa giving him a bit more time.
Insua might be difficult to keep out of the side next season mind. Of the 3, Aurelio might feel most under pressure to perform right now."

"DonTommaso Why are you worried about Arbeloa's place for he is very consistent and defends well? As for Dossena I dont rate him I think Aurelio is a stronger defender and better passing ability. But saying that im very impressed with the games insua has played. YNWA"

"I honestly think he is better than Aurelio and although he hasn“t impressed he has been better than JAR was his last season...Insua is playing ok, nothing more (he looks a bit slow in his acceleration). I am all about giving players time although 2 good games in 20 for Lucas for example does not cut it...Than again, if he can keep playing the mediocre teams while resing SG and Masch, everything is fine and dandy...Most worrying position for me is Arbeloa..."

"i remember a lot of people wrote Riera off when Rafa wanted to brong him into our team based on his previous experience with Man City. But things changed after Riera played so well and so consistent in his play for us so far until Babel has to warm the bench! This taught us a lesson for jumping into conclusion too soon. Dossena needs time to settle down and i believe Rafa has his ways of making him good and contribute to us. Just be patience and give him some time.....YNWA"

"WhenYouWalk - but his mistakes are basic FOOTBALL 101. positioning and just stupid decision making. All of that comes down to his football brain, not lack of communication on the pitch. Heck, half the time i can't understand Carra's interviews but at least as a Left back, you should know that you are supposed to do the basics and defend resolutely. What's Italian for slow fat defender?"

"I think most liverpool fans on this website are extremely fickle which makes me seriously think that most of you "supporters" are either 12 years old and change your team like the British weather or stupid? Can't decide which?
The guy has been at the club for 5 months and you say get rid of him, he's crap...blah blah blah. You want instant success.....maybe you leachers are 13 and stupid!! Go and support another club please.....Toffees are always looking for bafoons!"
