Middlesbrough midfielder Josh Walker faces a lengthy spell out after tearing ankle ligaments during Saturday's clash with Sunderland.
Making his first start in the Premier League and seen as a bright prospect for the future, the 19-year-old was forced off early in the second half of the 1-1 draw.
A specialist determined the England youth international has torn lateral ligaments in his left ankle, with the club refusing to put a timescale on his absence as the injury is still being assessed.
Fellow midfielder Didier Digard, who was taken off after 65 minutes after taking a heavy blow to the head, will be fit for Saturday's trip to West Brom.
