Fernando Keane for Robbie reunion

Fernando Torres has disputed claims that he and strike partner Robbie Keane struggle to form an effective partnership for Liverpool.

Torres and Keane: Can play together

The Spanish hitman, who has pronounced himself ready for the fray again after a season troubled by no less than three hamstring injuries, insisted there was no reason why he and Keane could not be Liverpool's main strikeforce.

Torres, speaking after he finished third in FIFA's World Player of the Year awards behind Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, said: "Yes, sure we can play together - but the boss decides, he's the manager and he's a fantastic manager.

"Sometimes not all the players can play together in the same team. But I have played with Robbie a lot of times and we've scored goals when we've played together.

"I think we are going to play together, depending on the game."

Torres admitted he is desperate to make an impact on the season after a frustrating first half of the campaign.

He added: "I feel much better, and I hope to come back to play in the first XI as soon as possible. Then I can forget the injuries and start to play again for Liverpool who are in a very good position this year.

"I don't know if I can play 90 minutes yet but for sure I can be in the squad, but of course I want to be in the first XI.

"I didn't do pre-season properly after the Euros, the season started too soon and you are trying to keep the best physical stamina but it's difficult when you have to play three games a week. Now I want to stay a perfect 100%, and not get injured again."

The 24-year-old denied that Liverpool were going through a sticky patch and in doing so allowing Manchester United to catch back up.

Torres said: "I don't think so, and we now have two derbies which are big games for the city and for Liverpool.

"If we can win the derby in the league we can stay in first position and then afterwards if we win again in the FA Cup it gives us a lot confidence. I think two consecutive derbies is not a bad moment for Liverpool.

"We are top of the table and we have to enjoy that."

"Ok my fellow LFC fans..... I think dat rafa should have done this 2 years ago.... Other than wasting 20m on Keane, rafa should hav kept Luis Garcia.... His few seasons with LFC were amazing.... He was also a key player n made great progress playing as a second striker n makin partnerships with Crouch,Baros n Morientes..... He could have made a great partnership with Torres too, wouldnt he....

I m not saying dat Keane is crap, but he doesnt hav dat 20m quality..... In terms of spending 20m, we are talkin about players like Quaresma,Fabiano or Iniesta.... I hope dat rafa brings Luis Garcia back to Anfield.... "

"I agree with Jimmascouse however remember Kuyt scored more playing on the right rather than up front. He has been extremely unsuccessful upfront but has looked far better on the right. Keane was getting goals and I would have rather seen Keane and Gerrard upfront with Kuyt on the right."

"matsoko you are a joke!"

"we would love to have your problems, rafa should come to us and you can have hughes. then you will appreciate him"

"Matsoko (so-called Liverpool fan) - drop the attitude, have you forgotten where we are in the Premiership? The reason we're not further ahead is the same reason that Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal are not ahead of us, because the Premiership has stepped up a gear this year and the other teams are far harder to break down. They're ALL dropping points against the so-called poor teams, it's not just Liverpool! Wise up and see what's going on in the EPL and take your blinkers off Rafa! Regarding not playing certain players, Torres said himself at the Fifa awards that he is not fit enough for 90mins so do you expect Rafa to play him anyway and get injured again?? And for those of you short-sighted enough to be saying Keane should be playing instead...I understand to a point because I'm as big a fan of Keane as anyone but Kuyt has scored more this season. How about rather than criticising every decision Rafa makes, you appreciate that we do not have the best team out of the top four and yet we are still top of the league."

"Keane and Torres could have been formidable if they get 10 games together in a row.....but because of Rafa's "big Head", stubborn, lucas lover.....they are formidable on the bench now.....I believe if Liverpool had a decent manager, we should have been 12 points clear at the top.......because Arsenal, United and Chelsea have been poor in the first 15 games of the season and we should have seize that opportunity...Now Man U getting stronger and with Arsenal getting results and Chelsea soon to bounce back...i am expecting a 4th finish if we are lucky...but that could change if RAFA BENITEZ gets the boot and a decent manager like Rijkaard comes in to win our first premier league title for 19 years...i really hope the rumors of Rafa's rows with the owners is true and hence he walks away, the way he did with Valencia and takes over Real Madrid....when Liverpool face REAL MADRID next month...i am confident it will be walk in the park if Rafa is in charge of Real Madrid and Rijkaard or even Phil Brown for that matter is in charge of Liverpool.......This moron should go....I wil never stop criticsing him...because i am in the opinion of Rafa is is ruining Liverpool's credibility as world footballing powerhouse.........please kick him out of Liverpool before some hardcore fans shoots him and Lucas..."

"To all the doubters, what is our league position now? Top!!! Remember, Man U still need to win their games on hand, and it's getting tougher and tougher to win against the lesser teams, even at home. Just ask Chelsea and Arsenal. Even if Man U wins all their games in hand, they are only superior by 1 point."

Deeno (Liverpool fan)

"Rafa has to go, he is mocking the club by defiantly fielding players he believe is good enough to play as per his formation. Every fans know that Kuyt can't play as a lone striker as he got no pace. Lucas is too wasteful in his passing to control the midfield. He is kidfing himself if he thinks Lucas did very well against Newcastle. Newcastle was having an off day.

Del Bosque to replace Rafa. "

skreet (Liverpool fan)

"hahaha..again, the devil supporting toffees comes here and talk about his paymaster..shut up dublintoffee..at least our manager is better than ur other team manager..u shld change ur nick to dublindevil instead and get lost from liverpool's page.."
