Rooney set for three weeks out

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson expects Wayne Rooney to be out for around three weeks with a hamstring injury sustained against Wigan.

Rooney put United ahead in the opening minute of Wednesday night's Premier League encounter at Old Trafford but not long afterwards, the striker limped to the sidelines and was immediately replaced by Carlos Tevez.

"It is a hamstring injury," Ferguson confirmed.

"That will be about three weeks. We hope it is no longer."

It is not the only problem United face either as Ferguson reported both Tevez and Jonny Evans completed the game despite taking heavy knocks during the first half that will have to be assessed ahead of Saturday's trip to Bolton.

"Carlos limped through the second half and Jonny limped through virtually the whole game," revealed Ferguson.

"We will have to assess them and see how they are. We need our best team on Saturday because Bolton are a big side."

"This will give Carlos Tevez to shine along with Berbatov but what a miss Rooney will be just as he looking lethal in front of goal once again. Lets hope Tevez can recapture his form of last year and shoot us to glory for the next few matches at least."

"I would be interested to see if SAF gives Anderson some run outs with Tevez in the side!? I see a good understanding between the two (in general) and would like to see more of them together!!"

"i agree united no1, Tev and Berba have super duper potential but they really need to practice hard and maradona doesn't know anything about football if he thinks tev should leave us (we're the red devils), i never really thought much of him as a player anyway, he was over rated!!

bilalhouri is righ about rooney, he's a big boy, i just hope coleen looks after him and gets him fighting fit soon!! rock on, peace out bros"

"Carlos Tevez and Berbatov have to practice their play in order to gel. They need to be playing more games together. "

"I think this will be the golden oppertunity for Carlos Teves to make his mark in the absence of Rooney. I have always wondered how Teves and Berbatov will be together."

"I think he will recover in less than 3 weeks, he's a strong lad..."

"that always happen when Rooney is on top of his game."

"Manchester United struggled today. Maybe exhausted from the Chelsea match. Its no exsuse though. These are profetional footballers so they have to keep on. I have seen too many 1-0 scorelines and hanging on by threads. Come on Reds im sure we can do better. "
