St James' Park: Won't be named after adidas

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley announced controversial plans to rename the ground when he decided he no longer wanted to sell the Championship club and took it off the market last week.

Adidas, who are already Newcastle's kit suppliers, were reported to be interested but a statement released by the company read: "Following media speculation regarding Newcastle United and the naming rights for St James' Park, adidas can confirm that it has not been offered the naming rights to the stadium and would not wish to take the rights if they were offered.

"Adidas remains committed to our on-pitch partnership with the club."

"akiratoon: I did not mean to offend you I was just stating that if things were to go that way who knows what the stadium would be called... Its obvious from your reaction that you do not have the Geordie Sense of Humour... I am a Liverpool fan however, I am a season ticket holder for your beloved Newcastle as I am responsbile for contracts your staff.. I would think that I have been to much more Newcastle games than you....By the way "ebst" is a typo.. Let me explain as I doubt you are adequately educated.. a typo is an error in text. It is not intentional nor is a characteristic of a person who cannot spell... If you are that uptight about the English language "Ive" is not a word nor is "don't" nor is "you've" all of which you have posted.. your just an no-good, lazy, uneducated, ARSE.............. Fans like you are the reason why Nwecastle are in trouble"

"haha..it seems ive pressed a few buttons to all you Newcastle supporters. LEt me tell you something..cause it seems you all know me..ive been to more United games than Newcastle have won in the last 3 years..If you think supporting a team who wins trophies is "fake"..and supporting a team who looses every year is "genuine"..than you all deserve a clap..you all are better supporters than me for supporting a team who looses!..thank you..tonight ill be watching United in the Champions league..and maybe booking my 3rd straight champions league final ticket..hope to see Newcastle in it..oooh wait...oops i mixed you up with a good team..my bad..GGMU"

"jaffatit - What does "ebst" mean? your really poor English is hard to understand. You have no frame of reference posting on here because from what i've read/heard, Liverpool are right in the brown stuff with huge, huge, huge, huge amounts of debt and just like us, nobody who wants to invest. Oh well, you might win the league one day, may be next year, or next, or ne...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. The Durex one was soooo sooooo funny as well! Why don't you re-name your stadium the Cilla Black hole or something ??? Congratulations, you've just made yourself look a right idiot as well like miwanik below!!!!"

"I hope the fans win i want Newcastle's stadium to stay as St James Park its tradition and has its own persona and is a great stadium as are the fans. Mike Ashley should be ashaimed of himself and to wear the Newcastle shirt after what hes done to that club is a disgrace, I know how the fans feel as a Liverpool Fan we have had similar troubes with our own dimwit owners. Keep pressuring Ashley raw loudly at your home games make it be known to him you are not in favour of a name change and keep up the good work on the pitch!!!! YNWA "

"i hope that the chairman of newcaslte utd sees sense and does not give the naming rights of st james' park to a big named company. as a boro fan we had to put up with for many years been called the BT CELLNET instead of the riverside. i have been to many a football match between newcastle utd and middlesbrough fc over the years and i still stand in awe at the passion of the newcastle fans at st james' park. i would like to say that i stand behind the fans of newcastle utd in their bid against the chairman mr cashley to keep the grounds name of ST JAMES' PARK."

"I'll give you a tenner to call it after me!"

"Pretty soon Newcastle United could be playing at the Asda Arena, or the Marks & Spencer Bowl, or the Tesco Stadium or even the Ryanair Stadium hehehehe or the ebst one would be the Durex !!! "

"miwanik = fake glory supporter who's never been to Old Trafford, He also cant spell, My 4 yr old son finds your spelling funny lol, go back under your bridge glory supporting troll.

miwanik also supported Chelsea and Arsenal a few years ago."

akiratoon (Newcastle United fan)

"Who cares. MIWANIK - It must be really great to support an amazing team. Are you an actual, genuine, real Manchester United fan from Manchester because these are really, really rare and would sell for loads on ebay or are one of those billions of people who always say "I support Man U because i just like em and i don't know why". Us lot up here in Newcastle are a solid bunch of supporters who support our team 100% through thick and thin and trust me, childish comments like yours really don't bother us. Congratulations!, you've made yourself look a great big fool "
