Gunners hit by Bendtner op blow

Nicklas Bendtner is to undergo surgery on his injured groin and faces around a month on the sidelines, according to the Arsenal striker.

Bendtner: Sidelined for around one month

The 21-year-old Dane picked up the knock in last month's 3-0 derby win over Tottenham and had been expected to miss around a month.

He was quoted in the Daily Mirror as saying: "I will have an operation. I don't know how long I will be out."

Speaking at the time the injury was sustained, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: "We suspect [he will be out for] four weeks.

"Bendtner is a big blow. I played him against Tottenham because he is strong in the air.

"It gives us more variety in our games because we can lose possession, yet still win the next header with Bendtner.

"He makes us dangerous at set pieces and so we can change our game a little bit."

"this is the time when we talk of buying strikers or defenders specialy back 3 coz right now we hav big games coming and serious reports of injuries.so we need to buy strong strikers like chamach.and in defends gibbs is not strong when it comes to defend.i think traore is even better than him in defece.gibbs can strike from the wing than defend.gibbs playing is pressure on mr wenger. as i think coz they always talk of no england player in first time while wenger trained people like hoyte, gibbs, even upson.and others.so this is football and club not national team.so were are worried coz atfter agame we wil play with strong players like drogba and anelka and essien than we need strong defence, coz we don't want people that can cost us like in last year's champions leage.in my ideas gibbs can play big game and strong games.he is not like gael"

"Why all the talk of buying Chamakh? We don't need another striker, that will only hinder the chances and morale of the strikers we have in the first team, not to mention the lads trying to break into the first team. Surely if we are to bring in someone in January it has to be in the defensive area. Get well soon Bendtner anyway, he is a useful squad player if played up top. Just needs to stop fluffing chances but with age comes experience so I say give him a chance for now and maybe readdress that area at the end of the season, unless something awful happens (touch wood it doesn't).

"Once again we have seen that Arsenal have not bought that "header" up front as was anticipated with the deaprture of Adebayor! Chamakh if purchased would have been the replacement May be in January 2010!"

"Take your time son.Buy 200 dummies and practise how to place the ball in the back of the net cuz you can shoot really well but miss that lill bit of scoring instinct and bulk up a lill bit while you're at it.cuz with your height and a lill bit of ferosity, you can bully any defender in the world.get better soon cuz we need everyone fit and firing on all cylinders"

sayur (Arsenal fan)

"i knw sometimes he can be clumsy, but at 21 he is doing well, lets wish him goodluck to get back from injury..now voted Danish player of the year, help Denmark beat Portugal n qualifies for world cup finals is really somethin which superstar ronaldo couldn't do for Portugal haha.... "

stelhenry (Coventry City fan)

"He actually played really well against the spuds until he got injured. Im not his biggest fan but he is improving and is still young. He's a good option to have in the squad for league cup games and also wen arsenal play bigger more physical teams. He's the type of player you need if you are to win titles and cups. He's a player who doesnt winge if he's on the bench and can chip in with 10 goals a season. He's like park for man united you cant have a 22 man squad of world beaters you need players who can do a job from time to time. "
