Ancelotti believes in Blues pair

Carlo Ancelotti will turn to Daniel Sturridge and Fabio Borini in January when Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou go to the African Nations Cup.

Sturridge: Great future
Sturridge: Great future

Chelsea have been linked with a £40million move for Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero in the January transfer window but Ancelotti is also ready to hand his second-string forwards a chance to shine.

Kalou and Drogba, along with Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel, will be on international duty at the African Nations Cup during January.

But the Italian coach is confident Sturridge and Borini have the talent to ease Chelsea through a difficult period.

"We have two boys with a great future: Sturridge and Borini," declared Ancelotti.

"Borini is a very, very, very interesting 19-year-old from Bologna."

The Italian coach has guided Chelsea to the summit of the Barclays Premier League and the Blues face Wolves on Saturday with a five-point cushion over Arsenal and Manchester United.

Ancelotti has proved the doubters wrong so far and the Italian has revealed he used the fitness model perfected by predecessor Guus Hiddink when he took charge in the summer.

Hiddink led the Blues to FA Cup final glory after their early-season struggles under Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari.

The former AC Milan boss has admitted he left many of Hiddink's methods in place, particularly with regard to the squad's fitness.

"I've gone for the very same fitness routine introduced by Guus Hiddink, without the slightest change," added Ancelotti.

"It's a routine that has drastically reduced the number of injuries over the last season. I've only increased the tactical training sessions, something the English are usually allergic to."

But, while Ancelotti is convinced Sturridge and Borini will flourish in January, left-back Ashley Cole is keen to see some new recruits at the club.

The club's transfer embargo has been suspended pending judgment from the European Court of Arbitration for Sport.

Cole, who is hoping to shake off a stress fracture of the leg to play against Arsenal at the end of the month, stopped short of naming any specific targets.

"Of course, every club wants to see new players and at a club like Chelsea you know whoever comes in will be world class," he told Sky Sports News.

"You would love to see new players but it's not my money they're spending and it's not down to me. The squad's amazing as it is.

"We're going to miss the African guys when they go to the African Nations Cup and we've got players who can fill in. But, of course, it would always be nice to have new signings."

"Why does everyone forget about Anelka? drogba co may be away but Anelka with one of borini and Sturridge would be more than suitable for the teams we will be playing in that period of time no disrespect intended to the opposition. Nico ain't a slack so we should have more than enough fire power "

"Robinho1 - What makes you think he can learn and grow up with Manchester City club considering you have 6-8 strikers on the bench? I'm willing to double the money you put on Sturridge for not starting at all in your club. He would rather take chances to play/learn from his England colleagues and given Chelsea has 2 strikers at the moment, he stand higher chance for opportunity. "

"This is when the champions are going to take advantage of chelsea, even chelsea will have to admit that without drogba they aint really got no one up front who can score goals every match, and now every one will be telling me how anelka is the one thats been scoring the goals for the past couple of seasons but thats only because of drogba, hope ivory reach the finals."

"Yeah right....put your money where your mouth is Mr Ancelloti, don't sign any players in January and stick with the 2 kids during the African nations cup and lets see what happens but i have to say you were very cheeky when you said the English are allegic to tactical training which i think is a fact in most clubs in England except the mighty Arsenal of course..."

"chillywilly (Liverpool fan) - After watching Sturridge play (when he wasnt injured) Im willing to put £100 on Sturridge not starting more than 5 games all throughout January nevermind the whole season. Good player but has never made the progress he should have when he was 15 yrs old at City - He should have been a England regular but he is quite content kicking his heels picking up £60k per week watching every week never making a murmmer about not playing...Sad really but thats young foorballers now. "

chillywilly (Liverpool fan)

"How's this for a thought. If Sturridge does well in Drogba's absence, what say he gets a shock England call-up (at the expense of Bent/Heskey)?"
