Redknapp: I don't want to sell Pav

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insists he does not want to sell out-of-favour striker Roman Pavlyuchenko in the January transfer window.

The Russia international has been strongly tipped to leave White Hart Lane due to lack of first-team action when the winter window reopens.

The former Spartak Moscow ace has failed to hold down regular football in North London and has been linked with Roma of late.

"We've got a strong squad - and we've got Luka Modric to come back. There's more than enough strength in depth," explained Redknapp.

"I don't want to sell Roman Pavlyuchenko. Technically he's a fantastic talent but he keeps saying he wants to go.

"He's got great ability but he wants to play regularly but it's been difficult with (Jermain) Defoe, (Peter) Crouch and (Robbie) Keane all doing well. It's unlucky for him."

Sunday's 9-1 demolition job of Wigan sees Spurs fourth in the Premier League ladder and Redknapp would be disappointed if they missed out on European football next season.

"Anything other than a European place would be a big disappointment," he continued. "We only missed out by one point last season - but it's not impossible to finish in the top four.

"There are one or two other teams - Sunderland are going well, and Everton - but any one of Manchester City, Aston Villa and ourselves I think have got a chance of breaking into the top four. Why can't it be done?"

"Demus (Nottingham Forest fan) - how exactly is it discrimination. he is not as good as the 3 players infront so they play? as far as not beingh a very good coach have you seen his CV? have you seen that its neraly xmas and spurs are 3 points off second? did you see that despite an awful start HR came in and we only missed out on europe last season by a few points? your talking rubbish"

"alfried; Harry is not fair towards Roman who is gifted and a good finisher - it´s discrimination! Harry lacks the basics of coaching skills. He really has nothing to give to Tottenham."

"Demus (Nottingham Forest fan) what a random comment. what exactly make you think Pav is world class? the fact he plyed for the best club in a poor league and scored a lot of goals? Arsenal are a good club with a good manager, but why does that mean Harry has to be sacked? please explain?"

Demus (Nottingham Forest fan)

"Roman is a worldclass player, never given a chance. Arsenal is a fantastic team with a great manager. Harry Redknapp has to be sacked "

SACKBENT (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"Get rid of him and please Spurs learn from your mistakes!! The trouble is whoever we buy is going to be a fourth striker, and therefore unhappy, so don't spend too much money, buy a kid on the cheap that has potential, not going to upset the apple cart etc, otherwise $10 million quid will turn into $2 million faster than Defoe can score a hatrick!"

spursdanno25 (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"joypadd..any club that doesn't have the current resources to win a title or the champions league will effectively be a "selling club". if you have great players that get tempted away by teams offering them the chance to compete at the very highest level then of course you have no choice but to sell. but to say that spurs are a selling club in the sense that they have to sell in order to buy then thats not true. think about the players that have left in recent times. the only ones that left for better teams are berba, carrick and keane (who returned very quickly)."

alfried1983 (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"im sick of this guy, get rid of him, use Dos Santos, perkart, obika or mason as our 4th choice stiker. if you dont want to play for the club then get down the road. simples"

Jonno_Blue (Everton fan)

"I think Everton just have to concentrate on next year with everyone back and players bedded in"

LedleyZeppelin (Tottenham Hotspur fan)

"Pavyluchenko is living off false praise from Euro 2008. He could do a job at West Ham or Fulham, but he's not good enough for White Hart Lane. "
