Jurgen Klinsmann has moved to end speculation about Lukas Podolski's Bayern Munich future by vowing to improve his game at the Allianz-Arena.
The 23-year-old has failed to establish himself at Bayern, scoring just nine goals in two seasons, and he is keen to secure a move to a club which can guarantee him first-team football.
However, despite Podolski hinting at a return to former club Cologne, Klinsmann insists the Germany international is going nowhere.
"Lukas has two years to go on his contract with us so there are no questions to be answered. I'll go to great lengths to make sure Lukas feels happy at Bayern," Klinsmann told Bayern's official website.
Klinsmann, who was announced as Ottmar Hitzfeld's replacement in January but only began work at the beginning of the month, knows Podolski from his time as coach of the Germany team and is determined to help the youngster step up a level.
"I helped him a lot when I was in charge of the national team and I know him well as a character and a sportsman. I know how to deal with him and I think we'll get a great deal out of him in the future," he said.
The former striker admits Podolski has been played out of position and knows where his strengths lie.
"I don't regard Lukas as a wide player, but as a central striker, probably playing off a target man, but definitely in the centre," added Klinsmann. "
He scores his goals in and around the box, not from the left wing."
Meanwhile the small East Westphalian town of Lippstadt is preparing to welcome the focus of German football this weekend when Klinsmann makes his club coaching debut on the bench of Bayern Munich.
The sixth-division side, the former club of Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, invited Bayern to their 100th anniversary celebrations in May, but probably did not realise back then how big an event it would be.
Their Am Waldschlosschen Stadion has had its capacity doubled to 8,000 with the construction of temporary stands while the game will be screened live on local television with a huge media interest in the fixture.
"We could have filled half of the ground with journalists alone," revealed chairman Kai Hartelt.
"These are really gigantic conditions for us."
The reason for the rush on tickets and interest is that supporters are eager to see what Klinsmann has achieved in his first two weeks in charge.
However, they will not see the true face of Klinsmann's Bayern as the German contingent of Bastian Schweinsteiger, Philipp Lahm, Marcell Jansen, Podolski, Tim Borowski and Miroslav Klose are still on holiday.
Italy striker Luca Toni and Turkey's Hamit Altintop are also still resting after the exertions of Euro 2008, while Franck Ribery is injured.
Lucio, Martin Demichelis and Willy Sagnol have only just started pre-season training and have been ruled out of this game too.
"Those three will be staying in Munich," confirmed Klinsmann. "They cannot play a competitive game after just four days in training."
Nevertheless, the likes of Ze Roberto, Mark van Bommel and Daniel van Buyten will be present with several promising youngsters making up the numbers.
"I want to take time to see how the players present themselves in training and friendlies," said Klinsmann.
"That is why I will not name my captain until just before the first Bundesliga game. I want to get to know the characters and get a feeling.
"All the players have the chance in training to prove themselves."
