Mateja Kezman's penalty earned Paris Saint-Germain a 1-0 win over Nantes on Sunday, lifting the French capital club up to third in Ligue 1.
Kezman, an August recruit from Fenerbahce, opened his account for PSG when he slammed home a seventh-minute spot-kick that proved to be the game's only goal.
Nantes, who appointed Elie Baup as a replacement for the sacked Michel Der Zakarian before the break for international fixtures, remain anchored to the foot of the standings after five games.
Sochaux are only a point above Nantes following a 1-1 draw against Lille in a match that only sparked into life in the second half.
Sochaux youngster Slovan Privat got things going seconds after half-time when he fired the hosts in front but Michel Bastos levelled with a spectacular free-kick shortly after the hour mark.
However, despite each side's best endeavour neither could find the winner and Sochaux recorded their second point of the season - three less than their opponents.
St Etienne are also enduring a miserable start to the season and that continued as they lost 2-0 at Caen to make it four defeats from their opening five games.
St Etienne recovered from a slow start to qualify for the UEFA Cup last season, and will have to do it all over again to get anything from this campaign.
Caen spent much of the first half on the back foot, but grabbed the lead through Fahid Ben Khalfallah in the 28th minute before Benjamin Nivet added a second in injury time.
Karim Benzema converted a penalty deep in stoppage time as Lyon came from two goals down to controversially beat Nice 3-2 at the Stade Gerland on Saturday.
A third-minute strike from Habib Bamogo and a goal from Loic Remy gave the visitors a shock 2-0 lead against the defending champions just 20 minutes into the game.
But two Juninho free-kicks brought Lyon level before referee Jean-Charles Cailleux judged Vincent Hognon to have handled the ball in the area - a decision he later admitted was wrong after he saw footage of the incident.
Benzema stole all three points from the spot four minutes into added time and Cyril Rool was also shown a straight red card for his protests.
Lyon sit at the top of the standings, two points clear of Marseille who were held to a 1-1 draw at Bordeaux.
Grenoble are fourth - level on points with PSG - after they snatched a 1-1 draw thanks to Laurent Courtois in a dramatic final six minutes at Valenciennes.
Chu Young Park and substitute Frederic Nimani were on target for Monaco as the principality club defeated Lorient 2-0.
Nancy made it three draws from their first five Ligue 1 games as they were held 1-1 at Auxerre.
Toulouse claimed a 2-1 victory at Le Mans while Le Havre halted a run of three successive defeats by claiming a 1-1 draw at Rennes.
