Cumbrians end Shrimps' cup dreams

An early goal from Joe Anyinsah ensured Carlisle claimed a 1-0 victory over Morecambe in Tuesday's FA Cup first-round replay at Christie Park.

Former Preston frontman Anyinsah latched onto a superb ball from the experienced Graham Kavanagh after just five minutes and drilled a stinging shot that gave home goalkeeper Barry Roche no chance.

It was the telling moment of a thrilling game which the Shrimps dominated for long periods, but their lack of a lethal finish proved costly.

Michael Twiss missed three great chances, Dave Artell headed wide twice and Craig Stanley came within a whisker of producing a late equaliser for Sammy McIlroy's side.

However, they were unable to find a leveller and it will be Carlisle who host Norwich in round two a week on Saturday.s
