Coupet career not over, insist PSG

Paris Saint-Germain have insisted veteran keeper Gregory Coupet's career will not be ended by the broken ankle he sustained on Saturday.

The 36-year-old had to be withdrawn after suffering the serious injury in the 82nd minute of Saturday's shock win over Auxerre and faces as least three months on the sidelines.

PSG have set up a page on their website for fans to pass on their good wishes to Coupet, who previously recovered from rupturing knee ligaments in August 2007.

But club president Robin Leproux had reassuring words over the future of the former France international, who is under contract until June 2011.

Leproux told L'Equipe: "He has a smile on his lips, he knows the sequence that awaits him.

"He will have to rest for six weeks and then begin his rehabilitation. It was quite a clean break and he is predicting a return to the squad."

Leproux also revealed the club will not look to sign a replacement keeper in the January transfer window and described Coupet's likely deputy, Armenian Apoula Edel, as a "fantastic goalkeeper".

Coach Antoine Kombouare can also call on 34-year-old Willy Grondin, who he raided former club Valenciennes to sign early in the season and has labelled "the best (goalkeeping) understudy in Ligue 1".
