Midfielder Jonny Howson is hoping a tough pre-season will allow Leeds United to replicate their explosive start of last term.
The Whites won eight of their opening nine fixtures but could only finish fifth in the table after a 15-point deduction.
The squad begin training on Friday, and Howson has mixed feelings about returning.
He told the club's official website: "The running and physical side is something you have to do - I don't think anyone looks forward to the running - but it's good to see the lads again.
"It's all about getting things ready for the new season now and looking ahead.
"If we have a start like last season it will be terrific, and if we start well again we have to try and maintain it."
