Tottenham keen on £25m midfield duo as club scout watches dominant display from Ligue 1 pair

Tottenham are reportedly interested in the signing of two Lens midfielders, having sent a scout to watch them both over the weekend.

Reports from French media claim that Spurs are chasing Seko Fofana and Cheick Doucoure and had the duo watched on Sunday as Lens cruised to a 3-0 win over Nice in Ligue 1.

Jeunes Footeux states that Tottenham ‘strongly appreciates’ the qualities of both players, hence their interest.

Lens are expected to have a tough task holding onto the duo, along with some of their other top talent.

To that end, the north London side are expected to consider making offers for the talented pair.

In terms of how much they may have to play, Doucore is currently valued by Transfermarkt at €10million. Lens skipper Fofana, meanwhile, is rated at around €20m.

The duo have formed a fine partnership for a Lens side currently sitting eighth in the Ligue 1 table.

Ivory Coast star Fofana has scored nine goals in 32 games in all competitions this season. As for Doucore, the Mali interantional has notched once and added four assists this term.

Tottenham looking to build on a strength

While clearly talented, the question remains why Tottenham would look to bolster their central midfield with a pair of players given how well Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg have performed over the second half of the season.

The duo have been outstanding for a resurgent Spurs side who are now fourth in the table.

Bringing in either Fofana or Doucoure would certainly make more sense, given that Harry Winks looks likely to move on this summer. But even then, Antonio Conte is also a big fan of Oliver Skipp.

The Londoner has been sidelined with a pelvic issue since January but is expected to be available again soon.

That will almost certainly mean that Winks is relegated from the bench to the stands.
