Gillingham manager Andy Hessenthaler faces an anxious wait over news of his future at Priestfield.
Hessenthaler cannot build a squad for next season until he is given the green light and the club's hierarchy are expected to make an announcement soon.
Chairman Paul Scally recently expressed his frustrations after the club failed to gain promotion from League Two for the second season running.
"It is my third year next year and I want to get this promotion we all set out to try and do." Hessenthaler told the Kent Messenger.
"I have a year left (on my contract) but he (Mr Scally) may change that. I would be disappointed because I want to stay and finish the job.
"We missed out by two points. I will look at my own performance and we will see where we go from there."
