Hartlepool striker Colin Nish is hoping to provide boss Neale Cooper with a fresh option as he eyes a return to first-team action.

Nish, 30, a free summer signing from Hibernian, had knee surgery in November and has been sidelined since Cooper replaced Mick Wadsworth as boss at the end of December, but he will get chance to show his worth in a reserve game at Gateshead on Wednesday night.

Reserve team boss Micky Barron told the club's official website: "It would be great if he could get the full 90 minutes behind him, but we'll just have to see how he gets on and monitor him as the game progresses.

"Neale has mentioned that area of the squad as something he would like to improve. He's not seen Colin play for Pools yet, so it's up to him to get out there and show what he can do."
