Hartlepool's club-record appearance maker Ritchie Humphreys insists he has plenty left to give after signing a new deal.

Pools' club captain, 34, says he feels in good condition and is ready to play an important part in manager Neale Cooper's plans next season.

Humphreys, who has played 511 games for Pools, told the club's official website: "I played about 30 games last year as a squad player and I enjoyed it.

"That kind of role can be vital for a team because you're not going to be successful with just 11 names all the time. It's about everybody else as well and trying to take the club in the right direction.

"I think I've got a few more years to give and hopefully I'm reaching a stage in my career where I'm reaping the benefits of all the years of doing things right in and out of training.

"You have to be a good professional to be still playing at a decent age. Sam Collins and Paul Murray as well as the big names who are still doing it in the Premier League week in and week out - they're great role models."
