Sadly it’s probably the best thing for Chester if he does leave WBA, and it is now reported that we have accepted a bid from Villa, but he’s better than that. Pulis never gave him a chance in his best position at the Baggies, where really he’s cover for an ageing Gareth McAuley, but I guess Dawson covers that now. McAuley can’t go on for ever, so I think it’s a bit short-sighted. However, I hope for Chester that a Premier League club comes in and tops Villa#s bid. He can only play central defence, because he was a square peg in a round hole when Pulis tried him in either full-back slot. Good luck to the guy, wherever he ends up. I guess Baggies fans will never get to see the best of him.
Of course the other factor is here are fans calling for signings in some key positions but all that happens is we sell, not buy.

Sadly to see Chester gone to Villa,i wanted him and Evans taking over for Olsson and McAley, but our clown of a manager did not see the same as i did in Chester. He never got the chance to shine under TP.Wish him well.Norway baggie

It’s come to something when an international back from a good display in the Euros would rather play in the Championship for a struggling team than stay with us! The latest prediction for the end of season once again puts us 17th. I wonder if that’s based on the clown never being relegated. Sludgy called me a cynic and he’s probably right with good reason. I’ve watched all sorts over the last 60+ years and there has been some pretty desperate stuff when we had no money and clueless managers. However, we now have the money but unfortunately we also have a manager who belongs to an older way of football. He’s the Model T to modern day Focus RS!

Why did we buy Chester in the fist place if not to keep him for eh future? McCauley and Llsen – great servants but both getting older – Gareth surely can’t continue forever. Our best centre-back pairing now and for the future is Chester and Evans and surely even TP didn’t buy these two in the expectation that they would play left-back. Now when Chester has finally shown in the Euros the quality he is capable of we decide to sell him – and by the look of things to the Villa! With ALL previous managers we could see what they were trying to do even though some of them weren’t very good at itc but now I feel as though we’re in a through the looking-glass world where nothing anymore makes sense to anyone except TP and his distorted vision of reality.

I think he expected Chester to grow a few inches under his leadership. ‘Keep stretching son, only another five inches and you’re in the team!’ To be honest I never rated the guy that much and watching Ronaldo rise above him to head the ball demonstrated exactly why he would never make any team picked by Pulis but like so many others still on the books he was never given a fair crack of the whip. Five new signings? I’m looking for just one from a new owner who has apparently bought into the ‘ethos’ of the club and it ‘aint a player!

Chester flattered in the Euros. Sure, he may have made a lot of tackles…but he hasn’t a clue what to do with the ball, when he has it. So I’m not losing any sleep over his exit.

Derwent – were you watching the same Euros as the rest of us?? And I agree He was beaten in the air by Ronaldo but who isn’t? As for knowing what to do with the ball, he didn’t know to start with having been schooled at the TP Academy but then he suddenly discovered that players were running into spaces or coming short for the pass and he settled into the role comfortably. No wonder he wants to play under a manager who conforms more to Chris Coleman’s idea of football than TP’s. In fact all managers conform more to Chris Coleman’s concept of football than TP’s. We may scrape something at Palace having reduced the game to a dreadful spectacle. What an ethos to be associated with the club who gave as Allen and Barlow, Astle, Hope and Brown, and Robson and the Three Degrees. It makes you quite angry when you think about it.

You are one angry guy, Sarky. I feel sorry for you, getting so worked up about something as silly as footie.
