Rochdale manager John Coleman insists captain Gary Jones still has a future at the club.
Jones, who is Dale's all-time appearance record holder, was a surprise omission in midfield for Saturday's dramatic 3-2 win that preserved the Spotland outfit's slim hopes of remaining in League One.
Unconfirmed reports at the weekend suggested the 34-year-old was involved in a bust-up with Coleman and assistant Jimmy Bell, but the former Accrington boss claimed the decision was made solely for tactical reasons.
He told BBC Radio Manchester: "We picked a team that we thought could win and changed our formation slightly.
"That's no slight on Gary, he's been a fantastic player for Rochdale and I'm sure he'll be a fantastic player for at least another couple of years."
