John Coleman described the defeat that sealed Rochdale's relegation as a "complete embarrassment" after losing 2-1 to Chesterfield.

The visitors had the game in their grasp at 1-0 with 10 minutes left after Jean-Louis Akpa-Akpro's 73rd-minute goal, but Coleman admitted his team collapsed under pressure to lose their League One status as the Spireites struck through Scott Boden (80) and Danny Whitaker (85).

"It's farcical, Chesterfield have been played off the pitch for 80 minutes yet they have been applauded off," Coleman said. "We have capitulated in the last 10 minutes.

"At 1-0 we were cruising, but it turned into a complete embarrassment. A bit of pressure and we folded.

"We should have won, we were walking through them at will and making chances at will. Their keeper has made an unbelievable save to stop us going 2-0 up and then our keeper hasn't helped with a routine ball into the box and it's cost us the game.

"We haven't won back-to-back games or won away from home since I have been here and that's ultimately cost us our place in this division."
