Dave Jones felt Sheffield Wednesday fully deserved their win after Michail Antonio's late goal gave the Owls a 2-1 victory over Carlisle.
The win moved Wednesday to within a point of city rivals Sheffield United in the race for automatic promotion from npower League One.
"It would've been a travesty if we'd lost it or not come away with maximum points because I think we've created over 20 chances," said Wednesday boss Jones. "It would've been so hard on us but we kept going and we kept playing and we got our rewards.
"In the first half I think if we'd come in at half-time four or five-nil up, I don't think anybody would've been surprised after that performance. Well done to the players because they kept going. The fans were superb because they got right behind everybody and it could've been easy to have a moan and a groan and everything else.
"When the six minutes went up the whole place lifted and that was fantastic. I've got nothing but admiration for everybody who was in the stadium because we're all one and we've got to maintain that. It's going to be nervous and you can see that when chances don't go in - some of them were tap-ins as well."
Jones added: "We were disappointed we dropped points here against Walsall and last week against Colchester. If we'd done it again, with the result of our neighbours, it would've killed us."
