Charlton left-back Rhoys Wiggins has missed out on a possible Wales debut due to injury.

Wiggins was named on the standby list for Wales' forthcoming friendly against Mexico in America but has been forced to withdraw with a heel injury.

Addicks physio Erol Umut told the club website: "The medical team decided it would be best that Rhoys withdrew from the squad due to his recent heel problem.

"In his determination to play every league game on the club's route to promotion and the title, he played with injections in his left foot and now needs a period of rest.

"He's now got a six-week programme where he will be off his feet and when the players report back he will be doing some strengthening work in the gym."
