Manager Alan Knill has confirmed that Scunthorpe have made an offer to bring former Leeds striker Mike Grella to the League One club.
The American is a free agent after leaving Bury at the end of last season.
"We have sent it through in writing, but I have to say that he hasn't just got our offer on the table, there are others too," the Iron manager told the club's official website.
"Without a doubt some of those offers will be more than we have offered, but he will have to make that decision.
"Like I have said I am hopeful that he will come to us but we have a ceiling on the offer, purely and simply because we don't have the money to go any higher.
"I am hopeful that he decides to come to us."
