Gary McSheffrey opened the scoring with City's first attack after just five minutes and Louis Garner tucked in the second.
Roy O'Donovan beat the offside trap to make it three before the interval and Will Roberts got in on the act after the break.
Roberts grabbed his second, and Coventry's fifth, with a far-post header from Shaun Jeffers' cross and Jordan Willis struck moments later with a shot which flew in off the crossbar.
Aaron Phillips was next to find the net before Jeffers rounded off the scoring for the rampant Sky Blues.
