Dean Saunders insists he will not get carried away with Doncaster's 3-0 victory at Walsall in their League One opening fixture.

Rovers scored three stunning goals to knock the stuffing out of a young Saddlers side who played good football but lacked quality in the final third.

Most onlookers would fancy Rovers for a quick return to the Championship on this form, but Saunders warned: "One swallow doesn't make a summer."

The Doncaster boss went on: "Our fans (1,000-strong at the Banks's Stadium) were terrific and I hope this sends a message to the town that we have taken a step back but now we can go forward again.

"Sometimes you have to do that. I have told the players that if we can be thereabouts at Christmas we shall get better as a group."
