Neale Cooper will take a short break from football before looking for another role following his departure from Hartlepool.

The former Pools boss, who resigned at the end of last month after spending just short of one year back in the job, endured a tough time in his second spell as manager at Victoria Park, winning just one of his 14 league games in charge this season.

Cooper said: "I love the game and I'd love to get back in it sooner rather than later. I've still got plenty to offer and will be looking at all my options.

"But it's been a testing period for me and I need a break. Mentally it's been very hard, so I'll rest up for a little while back in Aberdeen after saying all my cheerios to people in Hartlepool.

"I wish the club nothing but the very best. There's certainly no hard feelings. It's a lovely club that has fallen on hard times and I hope whoever comes in enjoys a bit more luck and can turn things round."
