Chesterfield v Yeovil preview

Chesterfield manager John Sheridan has no new problems as he ponders changes for the visit of fellow strugglers Yeovil.

Sheridan looks set to abandon the 4-5-1 system used during the away games at Rochdale and Brentford last week.

Sheridan accused his side of “going to pieces” after they conceded an 82nd-minute goal to slip to a 2-1 defeat at Brentford. He could recall utility-man Dwayne Mattis, who has been on the bench recently having recovered from an ankle injury.

Centre-half Simon Ford, whose knee problems have been likened to those experienced by Tottenham’s Ledley King, could be fit to return. Midfielder Jamie Lowry, who has not started a first-team game in over two years because of a serious knee injury and more recently a broken toe, could also come into Sheridan’s thinking after regaining his match sharpness with several outings in the reserves.

Midfielders Mark Randall, Mark Allot and Craig Clay and strikers Dean Morgan and Jordan Bowery are also options for the Blues boss, who has signed a goalkeeper and a defender ahead of the game.

With first choice keeper Tommy Lee (groin) still a couple of weeks away from a return, Ole Soderburg has been brought in on a one-month emergency loan from Newcastle to provide cover for Greg Fleming. Meanwhile, Neal Trotman has arrived on loan from Rochdale, with Spireites defender Dean Holden moving in the opposite direction.

Midfielder Andy Williams could make his long-awaited return to first-team action for Chesterfield.

Williams has not featured for the Glovers since August 27 due to an ankle injury, but is in line for a place on the substitutes’ bench against the Spireites.

Utility player Max Ehmer returns from a one-match ban for Terry Skiverton’s men, but Gavin Williams (knee), Jon Obika (knee), Paul Huntington (dislocated finger) and Steve Maclean are all sidelined.

Full-back Luke Ayling has been handed a further one-match suspension by an FA disciplinary panel following his red card against Leyton Orient and will miss the fixture.

Yeovil are rock bottom of League One, and desperately looking to end a nine-match winless run in all competitions.
