Coventry v Notts County preview

John Fleck, Richard Wood, Gary McSheffrey and Cody McDonald are all back in training for Coventry.

Midfielder Fleck suffered a nasty head injury in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Swindon which saw him knocked unconscious and require lengthy treatment before being taken to hospital, where he was later released following tests.

He has been routinely monitored all this week and it remains to be seen whether he will feature.

Defender Wood, already playing with a broken nose, suffered a second break against the Robins but the battle-hardened Yorkshireman looks set to face the fifth-placed Magpies.

Winger McSheffrey and striker McDonald have both missed out of late with foot and knee injuries respectively but are expected to compete for a place in manager Mark Robins’ matchday 18. David Bell (hip) and Conor Thomas (knee) remain long-term absentees.

Key trio Alan Judge, Neal Bishop and Dean Leacock are undergoing intensive treatment in an attempt to get fit for Notts County.

All three players were missing from the Magpies’ squad for the 4-1 home defeat to Sheffield United in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Wednesday night.

It was initially thought they were rested but manager Keith Curle has revealed they missed the second-round tie through injury.

“There was not one player rested. Everybody that didn’t play was due to injury,” Curle said. “I have no idea if they will be back. They will be getting intensive treatment morning and afternoon.”

Judge limped out of the 4-0 league win over Carlisle last weekend after being kneed in the backside, while Leacock also picked up a knock at Brunton Park while Bishop has a rib injury.

The Magpies go to the Ricoh Arena looking to extend their club-record run of unbeaten away league games to 14 matches.
