Rotherham manager Andy Scott praised his side's work ethic after they comfortably defeated promotion-chasing Southend 2-0.
A win would have put the Blues top of the League Two table but the Millers ended their three-match losing run to move up to 12th.
A debut goal from loan signing Shaun Harrad after nine minutes gave Rotherham the perfect start and former Southend striker Alex Revell made sure of the points in the 83rd minute.
"I love the fact that the team have got what they deserved and probably deserved from the Dagenham game as well," said Scott, whose side lost 3-2 to the Daggers last time out.
"We have seen it over the last three or four weeks in training and it's coming together. That was probably the biggest disappointment at Dagenham because for all the hard work we did not see a points tally.
"But it showed that's the way you play away from home in difficult conditions. We work solid as a unit, take our chances and restrict their chances."
