Manager Jim Bentley bemoaned his Morecambe side's lack of discipline as they went down 2-1 at in-form Bristol Rovers on Saturday.
Lee Brown's side-footed finish and evergreen striker Scott McGleish's 74th-minute penalty proved enough to continue Rovers' League wo revival against a Shrimps side who pulled a late goal back at the Memorial Stadium through substitute Kevin Ellison.
"Two moments of poor discipline cost us the game and ruined a good team performance," Bentley said.
"We gave the Rovers lad too much space to advance and cross for the first goal, while the penalty resulted from a challenge when there was no danger. We have to learn the lessons from those mistakes."
Bentley added: "We hadn't played for three weeks but I felt we started positively and more than held our own in the first half against a team in form under a new manager.
"Rovers are a big club for this division and we knew it would be tough. The pitch was tricky, but the groundstaff did a great job to get the game on."
