Port Vale manager Micky Adams was happy with his side, but frustrated to emerge empty-handed after a 1-0 defeat at local rivals Shrewsbury.
A long-range special from midfielder Matt Richards early in the second half carried the Shrews to the brink of promotion from npower League Two.
Adams said: "We played a full part in an exciting division two game. Both teams had chances. We came here with an attacking intent.
"We felt we could cause them a few problems and so it proved but their goalkeeper has had a good day - and I suppose in many ways our keeper had a good day as well.
"We learnt a few lessons from the game abandoned here a few weeks ago. We were lucky that we got another crack at them. They're a good side, worthy contenders for promotion and we'll miss them because it's a local derby, and we enjoy playing against them and the atmosphere that's created, both at Vale Park and here.
"But we wanted to have a go at them. We didn't just want to sit back and let them tickle our bellies. We had a go and I was proud of my players."
