Plymouth boss Carl Fletcher was happy with his side's spirit as they extended their good end-of-season form with a 2-2 draw against Morecambe.

The Shrimps looked set for a rare win at the Globe Arena but their celebrations were cut short when veteran defender Darren Purse took advantage of a mistake by goalkeeper Barry Roche to head into an empty net and earn his side a share of the spoils.

Earlier, Luke Young had given the Pilgrims the lead after three minutes before Jordan Burrow and Lewis Alessandra put Bentley's side on the verge of victory.

Fletcher said: "I said all along that we have high standards at this club and we went out to win the game. We started really well with Luke Young scoring a fine goal to give us a great platform.

"I thought we were excellent after that and were controlling the tempo in the first half and could have had more goals. The second half was different. We had the wind in our face and we were a bit sloppy at times and conceded a couple of goals where we could have done better.

"But we stuck with it and showed some real professionalism to get the equaliser. It was fitting that it was Darren Purse who scored because he is a true pro and has a never say die attitude and that is the sort of spirit you need at any club."
