Crewe boss Steve Davis remains hopeful that midfielder Ashley Westwood will be fit to face Aldershot this weekend.

Westwood limped off during last Saturday's 1-1 draw with Torquay after sustaining a foot injury but could return to help the Alex secure the points they need for a play-off place.

He has not suffered any broken bones and will not require an x-ray after it was revealed to be severe bruising.

"Westy was studded at the top of his foot and he couldn't carry on. He has a lot of swelling and struggled to get his boot on," Davis told the club's official website.

"It is sore but he has been having treatment on it and it has improved considerably.

"It is severe bruising so he won't need to go for an X-ray because he hasn't broken a bone or suffered a fracture there. He is recovering well and has a good chance of playing."
