Manager Aidy Boothroyd wants Northampton to rely less on loan players next season.
The Cobblers got good value out of the loan market in their successful battle against relegation from the Football League, drafting in four players who went on to play key roles during the second half of the campaign.
Clarke Carlisle captained the side and played every minute after his move from Burnley, Sunderland defender Blair Adams filled the problematic left-back spot and Toni Silva (Liverpool) and Brett Williams (Reading) contributed some vital winning goals.
But Boothroyd wants next season's squad to be made up primarily of players who are under permanent contract at Sixfields, with a sprinkling of long-term loan signings making up the numbers.
"I'd like to try to reduce the number of loan players we have," Boothroyd told the Northampton Chronicle. "I'd like it to be one or two because I'd like the majority of the squad to be lads that are being paid by the club, that live in the area and that are part of what we're trying to do and our needs as a club.
"That's a bit of a contradiction considering the lads that have come in so far, but it helps if you can get people in on a season-loan basis so you've got a core group of players who are doing it for you on a regular basis."
